A handwriting routine that fits into 15 minutes a day
Good handwriting is a habit, not a talent, and it works at any age. The good news is that the habit is small. Fifteen focused minutes a day is enough to see progress, whether you are a schoolchild, a professional or a grandparent.
The routine
- Warm up (2 minutes). Loops, waves and straight lines across the page. This relaxes the hand.
- Letters (5 minutes). Pick three or four letters that need work. Write each one slowly, a full line at a time.
- A sentence (5 minutes). Copy one sentence, paying attention to the spacing between words.
- Review (3 minutes). Circle the best letter on the page and say why. If you are helping a child, ask them to do it. Celebrate it either way.
Keep it kind
Praise effort and specific wins (“your spacing is much more even today”) rather than only pointing out mistakes. Learners of every age who feel proud of their page want to write more.
Make it stick
Pick the same time every day, such as after school snack, and keep the practice sheet where it is easy to find. Consistency matters more than length.
